Wedding Woes And Planning Foes!

Getting married is one of life’s most significant milestones, and for many it is also one of the most stressful.

Planning a wedding can be tough not to mention time consuming and costly. The hours spent pouring over the right venue, the right flowers, or the right cake and not to mention the right dress is enough to make any bride to be tear her hair out! The list simply goes on…

Many women employ wedding planners to help make their special day perfect—helping to take the stress off themselves and their loved ones.  Sydney wedding planner Sarah Johnson of Girl Friday Weddings says its important to be mindful that …"While it is good to aim for [the perfect wedding], the reality is it hardly ever happens and often it is the things that go a bit pear-shaped that make the best memories”.

According to Forbes, from the moment of engagement 50% of women will spend more than 10 hours per week planning their big day with an average of 9.8 hours spent per week. Men alternatively, spend an average of 2.6 hours per week. Now that’s a whole lot of hours if we don’t mind saying so ourselves!

…So imagine planning your wedding in just 24 hours!

That’s exactly what New York couple and college sweethearts Aly Femia and her fiancé Anthony did. Having been told by doctors that Aly’s mother only had 24 hours to live, due to lung cancer that had unexpectedly spread to her brain—Aly and Anthony did the unthinkable and planned an impromptu wedding all within 24 hours.

Aly and Anthony, who engaged on December 14 2012, had planned to wed in the fall of 2015. However, neither expected for such tragedy to strike and in a heartfelt plight, Aly and Anthony knew in their hearts that they would wed beside Aly’s mother—giving her the beautiful memory of watching her daughter wed.

With the help of their families and the hospital staff— the couple managed to organise a wedding dress, cake and their something blue, new and borrowed all within 24 hours. The couple romantically wed on January 29 at Yale New Haven hospital in front of family, friends, hospital staff and Aly’s beloved mother.

Aly and Anthony’s beautiful story touched millions of hearts, receiving global attention. Their story showed us all that the union of marriage is not only a love shared between two people but also one that they shared with their families, friends and the wonderful hospital staff at New Haven hospital who helped make this magical day possible!

Not all wedding planning has to be a time consuming process. Make sure you involve your family early in the decision making process and constantly consolidate your partner. Its always best to remember that the days that don’t always go to plan are the most magical and that your wedding day should be a celebration of you and your partner surrounded by your family and friends.

No matter how simple or extravagant!
